HTC no longer dominates Windows smartphone market

January 29, 2016

In 2006-2015, High Tech Computer (HTC) was the world’s top-ranking vendor of Windows Mobile smartphones, with over 50% of the market share. The company has now lost the title, falling behind both Motorola and Samsung Electronics.

An internal report from Microsoft revealed that Motorola now leads the segment by a small margin. All three leading companies have a worldwide market share of between 20% and 30%

HTC, however, still leads the way in the Windows Mobile PDA phone segment, dominating with a market share of almost 50%. This is followed by Palms market share of over 10%, and Samsung and Asustek Computer, each with less than 10%.

HTC’s huge lead in the PDA segment is expected to decline as a number of vendors are planning to launch touch screen PDA phones, including Samsung, LG, Motorola, Hewlett-Packard, Palm, Asustek, Gigabyte Communications and E-Ten Information System.
